Security in 64 bit version is much improved. I like the UI. Hardware I have was supported out of the box. Runs everything I've thrown at it except Win95 programs. Runs great on a little netbook (w/a RAM upgrade). Networking support on my home lan is much improved. I bought copies of XP anticipating needing them when it's no longer on sale, and now I regret it.

I've seen the '7 reasons to switch to Win7', but nothing applies. I have single core processor laptops, and Win 7 was tested to be no faster than XP (it looks faster but still takes the same time to boot and start programs). Vista was a disaster on even top of the line laptops, taking hours to copy files to a USB hard disk. Copying the same files from an older XP machine took 28 minutes! I might try Win 7 when I get a new machine, but I'll run an Ubuntu Linux live CD first and see how fast the hardware operates. Microsoft always promises the moon but always delivers so much less. Go back to Bill Gates' pre-release sales pitches to see if any Microsoft OS has lived up to the hype.

Of course I'm upgrading. Newer is always better. It makes me feel very smart and trendy to have the newest stuff. Besides, Microsoft says it's more secure and better and look how much money they have so I believe them. I can't really tell you what improvements make it so much better but I'm sure you can find out on Microsoft's web page. Now, where is my credit card? I wonder if they cancelled it yet. Now I can go around yelling at all the hardware and software makers that if their stuff doesn't work on Win7, it's crap.

My Win-centric friends are hoping that 7 is to Vista as XP was to 2K. I expect this is likely the case though, like XP it'll take a few SPs to get it right (the first and possibly the second will be mostly for show). As for whether I use it or not, I can't see that I won't. I fix computer problems for a living. If the most common system is also the one with the most problems, I would be an idiot not to work on them. As one .NET blogger commented (when blocking posts that recommended other technologies): I make way too much money from people who've made the decision to use Microsoft to recommend anything else.

Not interested in Windows 7. Linux meets my computing needs.

People are stupid to stay with any old OS that is older then 4 years. This of course mainly applies to XP user's. But could apply to user's with older Linux or Mac OS X. Even 4 years is ancient in computer time. I have used Windows 7 and before that Vista even in its beta stage was much better then Windows XP in security. Yes, the security prompts were sometimes annoying but so is wearing a seatbelt. But you will be glade you did in a accident. Microsoft should stop supporting Operating systems like Windows XP. Apple and Linux are very much into leaving past operating systems out to pasture in only a few years. The netbooks gave XP life when it should have been retired.

Laptop is already running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. This desktop will too (currently 2003 Server as a workstation), when I get the funds to upgrade the hard drive. Already got the memory upgrade, so I just need to get a couple of bigger hard drives (1.5 TB a piece is what I've got my eye on - that will take care of the combined 850 GB I've got right now)

I'm really happy with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. It was a totally clean and easy upgrade from Vista x64 Ultimate. Not a single driver or software issue :)

It looks like Microsoft is finally getting it right again with Windows 7. Seems like the time they got it right with Win2000 way back when. I think it's time to give Microsoft a break with all the Win bashing that seems to go on. Kudos for making an operating system that has to work with so many manufacturers, hardware choices and legacy sw and hw. I have really enjoyed using Vista, and with Win7 being an improvement on that, well, all the better. Windows Vista and 7 delivers on features, functionality and performance (lets not kid ourselves that really old hardware can and should support all the latest operating systems, nobody can do it, nobody does do it. At some point all software OSes require beefing up of hardware for good performance and full feature functionality). So, just wanted to get my two cents in on the subject. Looking forward to the new OS.

I have several PC's, 5 already have Win 7 installed. My son's gaming rig was upgraded and instead of XP we installed Win 7 and he is very happy with it. I also ordered a Lenovo laptop for my daughter that had Vista on it. Instead of spending hours taking the bloatware off, I just installed Win 7 on that without a hitch. I've pre-ordered multiple copies and will likely have to get one of the Family packs to install on all the computers we have.
