These kind of public apologies are nothing more than a photo opportunity. They get to look contrite and caring while doing nothing about the grinding poverty in our communities and the ongoing rape of our resources. words are cheap. Lets see some real action

Yes, An apology is the very (least) the US government can do for the process of healing. For us, the original people, and for them, the US Government. It is important for the American people to be assured their Government does truly have compassion for its people.

I believe an apology is warranted to acknowledge centuries of wrong-doings against native peoples in this country. An apology acknowledging assimilation, genocidal government policy, war, broken treaties, and continued land theft. An apology is an extension of hand, assuring these etrocities will never happen again, yet it (apology) is the making of a new beginning. I do not believe we Indians will truly heal until our government acknowledges our pain and allows us the opportunity to heal to move on, and to rebuild our tribal nations.

It is a start, but only a start. Words without action are only words.Yes apologize, but do not stop there.

Perhaps if it is sincere with some peace offerings. Maybe better Indian health care and education.

Apology alone does not equal a change in action.

An apology without change in policy is empty.
