    I don't support the current bill but I would suggest expanding medicare to cover anyone who wants to sign up for it. Why create a whole new unproven system when people love medicare so much?

    Suddenly everyone is worried about the deficit. We spent the last 10 years blowing our economy to hell on mindless spending and NOW we are worried about the deficit? Here's the deal with health care. We are already paying higher taxes except right now its a hidden tax. We pay it every time someone files for medical bankruptcy, visits the ER without insurance, or gets really sick because they didn't take advantage of preventive care. At least now, whatever the costs turn out to be, they'll be up front and shared by all tax payers, not just the rich.

It is frankly appalling that what is supposed to be the leading Nation on Earth is almost the only Nation in the Free World that does not have a Public Health care system..     I oppose the current healthcare bill and I do not think we should abolish Medicare. The fact is that the current health insurance bill (it has very little to do with health *care*) is a bad bill. It increases costs, puts a tax and paper work burden on employers, tries to impose (in my opinion) an unconstitutional requirement on individuals to purchase health insurance, and does absolutely nothing to contain the cost of healthcare. There are a couple of good things about the bill - in particular the crackdown on the ability of insurers to rescind policies. But overall - it is not good for the country. Does anyone remember when Candidate Obama was debating McCain and he talked about the need to do something about the costs of healthcare because, at least in part, of the burden it up on American business? Can someone explain how fining American businesses that don't offer what the government deems to be acceptable insurance options will address that issue?
