Do you think hiding a cell phone tower, the way Our Mother of Good Counsel church has--in its bell tower--is a good idea?

    The Public Hearing was held on December 2, 2009. Residences within a 500 foot radius were notified of the hearing, but I do not believe parents of the children that go to school there were notified. As such, parents were unaware and unable to voice their concerns in a timely fashion. Something is extremely wrong with a system that does not notify parents of the children that would be potentially impacted. Lets be real the children spend the majority of their day on that campus if there are detrimental health issues associated with the radiation from the cell tower than those children will be affected.

    Antennas on the steeple of a church is unwise. It is well known now that churches are desperate for money as their pews are empty. Telecom comes knocking and soon antennas are sprouting competing with crosses and the pastor is jumping for joy. What does OMGC get out of this? A new roof? A donation to the building fun? What do the students, teachers and neighbors get out of this? Chronic exposure to nonionizing radiation at levels that are now known to cause neurological diseases, cancers and functional impairments such as electrical sensitivity and lower performance in the classroom. I am a public health advocate on the hazards of EMFs. I also attended OMGC for the entire 8 years and grew up in the Los Feliz Hills. I was married and my dad's funeral and brother's memorial was held in that church. I feel cut to the core to know that the church leaders took a big risk by placing money over the health and welfare of the people near that antenna. As David Ehm so well stated, our health is at stake. Until we are successful in repealing Section 704 of the Federal Telecommunications Act that preempts states from taking health concerns into account when reviewing permit requests, these involuntary exposure conditions from radiating antennas will continue to increase. In June 2009, the Los Angeles County Supervisors unaminously passed a resolution calling for repeal of this provision of law. There are studies showing links between cell phone use and chronic exposure to antennas can cause brain cancer, infertility and neurodegenerative diseases normally associated with aging. The frequencies used by Telecom for 3G+ communications are now in the microwave range and are known to be biologically active. Last September, U.S. Senator Harkin held hearings on cell phone radiation science. Congressman Dennis Kucinich will be introducing legislation calling for research on cell phone radiation and cellphone warning labels this fall and says he has many coponsors. San Francisco just passed a bill calling for retailers to post the Specific Absorption Rates (i.e. amount of radiation legally permissible to be deposited in brain tissue) and the Cellular Telephone and Internet Association is suing San Francisco - what are they hiding? The FCC/FDA exposure standards for cellphones and antennas are inadequate to protect health and need to be lowered.     More information about the biological effects of non-ionizing radiation from wireless technology is coming out every day. Enough is not being done by cities, counties, states and the Federal Government to protect us from the potentially devastating health and environmental effects. Through the 1996 telecommunications act the telecoms are shielded from liability and oversight. Initially cell phones were released with no pre-market safety testing despite the fact the Government and the Military have known for over 50 years that radio frequency is harmful to all biological systems (inthesenewtimes dot com/2009/05/02/6458/.). Health studies were suppressed and the 4 trillion dollar a year industry was given what amounts to a license to kill. On it's face, the 1996 telecommunications act is unconstitutional and a cover-up. Within the fine print city governments are not allowed to consider "environmental" effects from cell towers. They should anyway! It is the moral and legal obligation of our government to protect our health and welfare? Or is it? When did this become an obsolete concept? A cell tower is a microwave weapon capable of causing cancer, genetic damage & other biological problems. Bees, bats, humans, plants and trees are all affected by RF & EMF. Communities fight to keep cell towers away from schools yet they allow the school boards to install wi fi in all of our schools thereby irradiating our kids for 6-7 hours each day. Kids go home and the genetic assault continues with DECT portable phones, cell phones, wi fi and Wii's. A tsunami of cancers and early alzheimer's await our kids. Young people under the age of 20 are 420% more at risk of forming brain tumors (Swedish study, Dr. Lennart Hardell) because of their soft skulls, brain size and cell turn over time. Instead of teaching "safer" cell phone use and the dangers of wireless technology our schools mindlessly rush to wireless bending to industry pressure rather than informed decision making. We teach about alcohol, tobacco, drugs and safe sex but not about "safer" cell phone use. We are in a wireless trance, scientists are panicking while young brains, ovaries and sperm burns.
