*sigh* Microsoft has really run out of ideas. "Features in found the previous OS are now available for download." This is their idea of a feature . Removing features and making you download them ? Sounds like an anti piracy scheme to me but they are that desperate to have features to list they put that as one? My Documents is called jump list now and user folder are called libraries , start menu pukes up MSN and Google searches wow that's awesome. Devices and printer now on one panel and desktop themes are called packages, removed gadgets bar and let windows help you resizing your active windows. I only hope this works as well Vistas explorer views I now love how my files and docs are sorted by birthday, shoe size and date taken (I gave up setting them to back to date created/modified and size and now just guess what is what) Oh more wizards for sharing photos and music what a Joke.

The question is phrased "upgrade". When I upgraded to XP it was a disaster. For example the extended features of my HP printer stopped working, and HP never fixed them all. It took months to get all the applications working. Also Microsoft lied about compatible software saying the firewall I was using was not compatible, when in fact it was. Just a trick to force users to drop their current firewall and use the Microsoft firewall. Can they ever be trusted? So I would never "upgrade" and existing PC. It will stay with the same OS version it came with. So the question is if I buy a new PC what would I choose. My guess is Microsoft will do it's best to eliminate any option but the then current release. I moved to Mac many years ago. Some of the companies I work with require Windows. Before that meant having a PC and a Mac. Now I can do both on a Mac, that works fine for me. As I only use Windows when absolutely necessary the version is not so important.

I haven't had any major issues with any of the windows OSs nor any of the Linux distros I've used nor the Macs I've played around with. If you are a fan boy or girl of some OS have fun but I just use the OS to run my software and I don't care. They all work for me. That being said Bill Gates once said the time to get a New OS was when you bought a new computer and at the prices MS charges this is a fact.

It is amazing what a human being can grow accustomed to out of necessity, Windows included. For example, there are some poor unfortunates in the world who have no choice but to live in a garbage dump. Of course after a while, they do not smell the odor. Likewise, if someone farts, but no one can smell.. does that mean that smell does not exist tho one is standing in a green cloud of farts. microsfot is that green cloud.

I've been testing Windows 7 and for the most part I like it. I'm not going to pay whatever extreme price Microsoft is going to sell it for though. They need to bring the cost of their OS much closer to $100 before I ever consider upgrading when an OS is released. Until then I'll gladly stay behind in editions until I can purchase a cheap OEM copy.

Please don't lump xp users in with vista users. Vista is just Windows Me2006.

Why would you put XP and Vista on the same option. XP While flawed and buggy and insecure is stable and fast. Vista is a bloated DRM laden scrap heap for bad code. The only thing Vista has over XP is some Eye Candy but at a very high cost.
